Things to do in Sedona when it rains

Updated November 3, 2026 · facts checked against the sources below

Sedona gets about 19 inches of rain a year, with the wettest months in winter and the late-summer monsoon. When it rains, slickrock gets dangerous and creeks rise fast, so switch to these.

Stay safe first

Wet slickrock is slippery, and washes can flood quickly. Avoid creek crossings like West Fork after heavy rain. State Route 89A through Oak Creek Canyon sometimes closes for floods, which also closes Slide Rock State Park.

Indoor and covered

The Sedona Heritage Museum is open daily, and Tlaquepaque's covered walkways and galleries make a good wet-weather wander. A wine tour keeps you mostly indoors.
